Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit which hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the wellbeing of artists and the communities to which they belong. The facility houses fabrication capabilities in ceramic and print and offers project management and fabrications services for public art.
Powerhouse Arts is housed in the former Brooklyn Rapid Transit power plant originally built in 1904. The building, once known as the Batcave, was a 117- year old power plant that has been redesigned by Herzog de Meuron, the architecture team behind the Tate Modern. The space has been completely reimagined to create a new contemporary art center that meets the multidisciplinary needs of the artists it serves.The venue boasts three unique event spaces, The Grand Hall, The Loft, and The Small Hall. Each of these spaces are an ideal fit for a wide array of events such as art exhibitions, fashion shows, corporate events, and more! The Grand Hall is also a great option for auto events due to the venue’s hoist system that can accommodate a 1,500 lb weight limit.
Not only does the venue offer 30,891SF of event space, the venue also includes a massive parking lot with 100 parking spots that can be utilized for valet/ self parking for event guests. With a capacity of over 1,000 persons, dynamic capabilities, and the flexible nature of the space the event options are endless at Powerhouse!
