IKEA | 201 MULBERRY

Move over 2016, IKEA PS 2017 went bold with their new 2017 collection at 201 Mulberry. This colorful pop-up offered visitors a sneak peek at the up and coming designs for the year and encouraged guests to 'LIVE IT!' Vignettes featured a 3-D knit chair, a sofa that can hang from the wall, and a convertible quilt-to-pillow. All those who stopped by were enthralled and inspired by the fun inew trends.

The LIVE IT exhibition also featured SPRIDD collections, as well as, the new SLADDA bicycle, pushing forward the focus on freedom and functionality for today's modern nomad.  7 Red Productions provided the finishing touch with distinctive A/V that accented the products and punctuated the event. Next time you are looking to kick off a new trend, check out 201 Mulberry!

EKLUND GOMES, DOUGLAS ELLIMAN | THE GARAGE

Last Thursday at The Garage, the 'Kings of New York real estate,' Frederik Eklund and John Gomes celebrated 10 years of partnership at Douglas Elliman. The Garage was transformed into an opulent enchanted forest with living walls, crystal chandeliers, nouveau French furnishings, and a mysterious white haze that clung to the floor for added effect (pictured bottom left).

The dynamic duo preempted the announcement of their joint charity, The Eklund Gomes Foundation (supporting New York's homeless), with a marching band and majorettes. Then following the announcement, a 21-person angelic choir serenaded guests. Later, the hosts brought down the house, when they reappeared dressed as space-age Marie Antoinettes, wigs and all, and VOGUED to Madonna while accompanied by glow stick whirling backup dancers. It really was spectacular. You had to see it to believe it.

MIXING IT UP

DJ WHITNEY FIERCE
You can always count on Kagency talent, Whitney Fierce, to take a DJ performance to the next level. Whitney fuses her classical musicianship with eccentric mixes, which fortuitously has landed her a spot on the UK's Top 40 Acts To Watch In 2017. Whitney recently performed at San Luis Potosi for the 20th Anniversary of Bovedas (pictured above) as well as in Mexico and Bali, before returning to Los Angeles to spin for the Night on Broadway festival. Truly fierce, Whitney is continually pushing the envelope and dropping the tracks that result in dancefloor mayhem.
We took a few moments out of the DJ's busy schedule, to learn more about the woman behind the music.

What inspired you to become a DJ?
I actually fell into DJing, completely by accident. After moving to NYC, my friend suggested that I throw parties, saying “You know everyone, they all love you!” — in an attempt to test this theory, I found a venue to throw a weekly event. The moment after shaking hands, I realized I had no idea how much I could pay a DJ, and ended up diving in with a punk attitude, if anyone could do it, why couldn’t I? Some advice from trusted friends, and a lot of practice had me DJing by the time the party started. Within weeks I was being booked by Nylon and Topshop, and that was 8 years ago. Can’t stop, won’t stop!

What's your go-to song guaranteed to get a crowd on the dance floor?
Actually this is a perfect question — there’s not even close to “one song” that properly answers it. Every crowd is its own beast. I think the most important quality of a DJ is being able to read a room, and every room has different energy and occupants, and I love paying close attention to how people react to different songs, and taking them on a journey. I will mention, however, that you’ll be hard pressed to ever hear me playing Journey. Also if you throw in something with a Prince sample, you’re gonna get booties moving immediately.

Aside from creating music, what are your other passions?
I’m so lucky to be able to travel for work, and traveling is one of my favorite things to do, I love discovering local cultures, food, and art. My passion, when traveling (or not for that matter) is finding traditional textiles! Oh my gosh, I can’t even explain to you what an incredible hodge podge of colors and patterns my apartment has become. I just love taking a bit of culture with me, in a way that it can inhabit my life and space, and be used too. Also I love salt, and have a tendency to collect different types and flavors, but don’t worry I have very low blood pressure.

Where is the most unusual place you've performed?
I’ve played a lot of crazy places, but perhaps one of the most unusual was a festival called Yellow Stargate. Getting there was an adventure in and of itself. Taking place on a random desert plot of land, it’s like a little village popped up out of nowhere, 45 miles off of any freeway. When I got closer to the event, the path to it was marked with messages on scrap and plywood propped up on shrubs and cacti. But believe you me, it was worth it. I played after an “Earth Harp” at 2 am and had a sandy dance floor of revelers going almost until the sun came up.
